I have been playing with a new Triquint ULNA device (TQP3M9036). It Shows a lot of promise. It is like a MAR or MSA device in that it is 50ohm in and out. and has a claimed NF about .4db nf ( their numbers). I have built several pramps to test them and have gotten even better than they claim and they cover 50-1296 with ease and NF is .4ish or below. The S11 and S22 are both great and the OIP3 is +35db also ...very nice device. It has great promise as a good terrestrial LNA. Preamps are foolproof to build and would cost under $50 if all the best quality parts are used. Just for information only ... EME Jamming

Hello moonbouncers, There was very nice CW activity during ARRL contest this year (on all bands except 2m from US) and it is unfortunate I did not have a lot of free time for it. I also “worked” JT65 logger eme (I thought: who is going to find out anyway??) and apart from constant chatter I also found JAMMING.... a lot of Jamming, even from its own creator!!? FT-736R vs TS-2000

Hi All Thanks for the input on these two radios Just to let all know I have always run a mast mounted lna designed by VE7BQH .25nf/19db which has worked very well for me on EME I think for a comparison i will get the TS-2000 receive modified as per Russ K2TXB just to try to see if there is any difference between the 736r and my TS-200 Hope to some comparisons to report over the next month or so Thanks Ian VA7SW//VE7IRA BTW when working EME I have on WSJT the RX DB set to 0 when I turn per amp off there DB on WSJT goes to –15 so the pre amp is definitely working

9G5EME news.

Good news! We have our single entry visa for Ghana! It took a whole day travelling to the Ghanese embassy and waiting, getting interviewed, filling in the right answers (in capitals) and showing the proof of our returnticket and yellow fever vaccination, but eventually we got a sticker in our passports. All on schedule now! This was not cheap. The three of us in total €360 (450$). Such a waste.... But with help of our sponsors the damage is less painful though donations still are more than welcome! Thank for your votes for the best EME VHF DXpedition 2012. The two men DXpedition operated by PA3CEE Eltje and René PE1L to Uganda (5X1EME) won. We're proud that all our African DXpeditions since 2009 got the first place. It's clear that we do our best, never resting and persisting in getting all of you in the log and we want to promise you that our policy hasn't changed for 9G5EME. You know us by know. We won't give up! Thanks for your trust gents! We're proud! For 144 MHz we do use the same setup as we used in Gambia and Uganda, 2 x 8 Xpol a WA2ODO preamp and modest power. If all ok we will have a small 70cm AND 23 cm setup with us. Our schedule: 144 MHz start april 12th till april 14th (condx are not that great but OK for the bigger stations) 1296 MHz april 19th 144 Mhz april 20th (ARI contest) 432 MHz april 21th 144 MHz april 22nd till april 27th (22-24 good condx for smaller stations) Power shutdowns are common in Africa so schedule can change and don't wait to make a contact with us till the last day. phasing harness

Again, thanks to everyone for even more input, I'm trying to gather new ideas to squeeze every bit I can out of my system. A couple people have commented on my 2m array using 50' phasing harness. Perhaps I have made a mistake so I will explain how I come up with 50'. a 2m 4 x 12 with 4 meter spacing both H and V fed from the back that would make each cable roughly 12 feet, 6 feet down to the center, and 6 feet across to the middle. 12ft x 4 antennas is 48 AKA 50'. Now of course I could go diagnolly which would be about 8.5' x 4 which is 35 feet. Then, you still need a single run from the rear center down the center of the boom, which will be roughly another 4 or 5 meters to the tower mast Did I make a simple mistake here? Paul

Success tonight with Brett VK2CBD managed to hear and see him -19 in JT65 and easy copy in CW using spectran so now I need to finish off housing the PA out by the dish and the PSUs run some coax and control lines and I am ready to go :) thanks to Brett for the sigs and confirming my system works! 73 Simon ZL4PLM A step closer to QRV on 23!
