Subject: [Moon-Net] uhf vs N connectors
Hi all, Still plugging away at my little pistol EME station. I was out rerouting the hardline I was planning to use for feeding my array. I discovered that I had a barrel connector splice in it so I was a bit disappointed. I dug out another piece of heliax that will now make the run without a splice. I will use the piece with the splice for my receive cable now. I assume the splice in my receive feedline will make very little difference. Im curoius how much difference there is in N connectors and the standard UHF connectors. Is it all that important as to what I should try to be using? I am more concerned with loss than I am with the ability to shed water. I have never had an issue with uhf connectors and water getting into them. My new piece of cable I had does not have any fittings on it so I will have to buy them anyway. My receive feedline, since it was used to feed a hf vertical at one point, has the standard uhf connectors. I assume I can just use it that way. As my stuff is dribbling in, Im finding that connectors on the transverter, sequencer, and the preamp have combinations of different styles of connectors as well. I think it would be wise to try to stay away from adapters as much as I can. These look to be a bit lossy I would assume. My phasing harness will have N connectors since that is what is on the baluns. I will have a number of jumpers eventually. Im just trying to get every little bit of power output as I can since Im just a little guy. Any thoughts?

Seems the consensus is to use N connectors so I will move forward with those. I also just received my DEMI transverter and WA2ODO preamp and both of them have N connector fittings. My fiberglass boom material should be here by the end of the day and the antennas will be here tomorrow. Im really gettin' stoked now.
Thanks for everyones input-Bob-W0YBS

All,
I have received a number of updates & corrections and for that I am very
grateful. A revised list will be made available later today and emailed to
the Moon-Net mailing list.
To help keep things in order and not get too jumbled up, I am making two
format changes:
1. The COMPLETE DATE ON THE CERTIFICATE will determine "ranking", *NOT* the
date of the last qualifying QSO. If the exact date on the certificate is
unavailable then only the year will be listed, but at the BOTTOM of that
year group; e.g., exact certificate dates for any year will be listed
first, and the rest of the "year only" dates for that year group will be
listed in alphabetical order immediately below.
2. A column headed "Confirmed" will be added and the callsign of the person
who sent me the confirming information will be listed along with the date
that the confirmation was sent to me. IF YOU SEND ME INCORRECT INFO,
EVERYONE WILL KNOW WHO SENT IT! ;-)
As before, please send me your corrections and/or additions to the list,
but at a MINIMUM I need to know the call sign, FULL NAME, and at least the
year that they were awarded the certificate.
Please bear in mind that we are getting NO HELP from ARRL/IARU on this
effort; therefore, for the list to "mean something" you must send ACCURATE,
COMPLETE DATA.
And a final word to those who may be working towards the award: IF YOU
COMPLETE THE REQUIREMENTS, YOU MUST SEND IN QSL CARDS; LoTW ISN'T
ACCEPTED! AND WHEN YOU HAVE THE CARDS DON'T JUST "SIT" THEM, FILL OUT THE
APPLICATION AND MAIL IT IN!

Attached is the 432 WAC list as I have it to date.
Please note that there are a number of dates that are approximate based on
old newsletters or hearsay, and they are marked in RED. As a consequence,
the "number list" is approximate at best except for K2UYH.
The 2017 and later listings are in green because the recipients all
notified me directly by email when their certificates arrived. There are
some older recipients who also sent me pix of their certificates to verify
the date, but to be honest I didn't track which ones did so and so they are
listed in black. Of course, the actual number order in which a 432 WAC was
received doesn't really amount to much..... except for Number 1, of
course! (Congrats, Al!)
So, who will be #42?

A few days ago I remembered that for some time I had not heard from TI2AEB
Armando, he sent me an e-mail every once in a while commenting on the
improvements in his EME station at 1296 mHz. mainly improving his antenna
on the roof, despite the recommendation of his doctor due to his high age,
but he enjoyed doing it.
He was no longer active in EME 432mHz when I started in this band. But we
do many QSOs at 1296 mHz testing the improvements of our stations.
Searching the web I find this sad news:

Lamentamos profundamente el fallecimiento del compañero, amigo y
radioaficionado Armando Bonilla TI2AEB.
Nuestro abrazo a su familia, y el sentimiento de solidaridad

I am very sorry for your departure from this world.
Rest in peace Armando.

I have no idea where the W3CCX logs and QSL's are. We certainly worked WAC from W3CCX and should be #2 on that list! I guess we were so involved with the HK1TL effort we forgot about that one!
yeah great memories.. To me the best was recognizing Dave's fist when we worked W3CCX from HK1TL!! Can't do that now on "WSJT EME".. sheesh..

Hi Guys (HK1TL Team )
Did we never get a WAC certificate for W3CCX? If so what a shame. Especially since we made it possible for the first 14 on the list to get theirs. I know we worked W3CCX just after K2UYH. Those calls bring back lots of memories. Things sure have changed in 43 years. I remember sending ZE5JJ 4 lengths of 90 ohm by ,25" semi-rigid cable to build a copy of my dual polarized dish feed, he sent me a South Africa lottery ticket ( did not win )
Best Regards

Kudos to Les, KU4F, who has achieved WAC on 432 MHz. Based on my database,
Les is the 41st ham in the world to be "on record" as having earned WAC on
that band. And BTW, Les accomplished his 432 WAC entirely on CW!
We are a small but happy group, HI-HI!
