Hello microwave enthusiasts.
The deadline for submittals for the MUD 2019 Proceedings is fast
approaching. Please email me any papers that you would like published by
Sept 3. If you need an extra couple of days, please let me know. Please
email papers, preferably in Word format to <mailto:w5lua@sbcglobal.net>
w5lua(a)sbcglobal.net
If you have not registered, please do so at
<http://www.microwaveupdate.org> www.microwaveupdate.org by Sept 16th. It is
a lot easier for us to plan, if everyone registers before the conference.
The room block at the Hilton Garden Inn has been expanded but I have been
told that the Kings are filling up fast. The Double Queen rooms are more
plentiful. Please make your hotel reservation as soon as possible. Remember
the contracted rate on rooms they still have available expires on Sept 13th.
Looking forward to see you all in Dallas October 3,4, and 5th.

Good news for 144MHz but not so good for 1296MHz where there will be ongoing
discussions...

CEPT CPG finalises its positions for WRC-19
The CEPT Conference Preparatory Group met this week in Ankara, Turkey. Items
of interest to the amateur service which were finalised were:
- Agreement to a European Common Proposal (ECP) on allocating 50-52 MHz to
the amateur service in Region 1 on a secondary basis with a footnote listing
those countries where the amateur service will have a primary allocation in
the band 50-50.5 MHz (WRC Agenda Item 1.1)
- Agreement to an ECP on spectrum to be considered for International Mobile
Telecommunications, which does not now include the primary amateur band at
47-47.2 GHz (WRC Agenda Item 1.13)
- Agreement to an ECP that retains the current regulatory position in the
5725-5850 MHz frequency band which includes secondary allocations to the
amateur service and the amateur-satellite service (WRC Agenda Item 1.16)
- Removal of 144-146 MHz from a French proposal for study of additional
spectrum for aeronautical applications. (WRC Agenda Item 10)
- At the insistence of the European Commission, a WRC-23 agenda item was
considered necessary to address the world-wide protection of Regional
Navigational Satellite Systems from amateur emissions in the band 1240-1300
MHz. A draft WRC Resolution was agreed which underlines the importance of
this frequency band to the amateur service and explicitly excludes the
removal of existing allocations as part of the proposed agenda item. (WRC
Agenda Item 10)
- There was no change to the already agreed CEPT position on Wireless Power
Transmission (WRC Agenda item 9.1.6). This states that no change is needed
in the Radio Regulations to address the question of operating frequency for
WPT-EV, but leaves open the question of spurious emissions from WPT-EV.
Commenting on the outcome of CPG, IARU Region 1 President Don Beattie, G3BJ,
said that the IARU team at Ankara (the only representatives of the amateur
service at the meeting) had presented clear and convincing arguments for the
amateur service position and he was pleased that regulators had recognised
the strength of the amateur case. He expressed his thanks to everyone who
had contributed to the outcome at CPG.
The issues now move to WRC in Egypt in November for final resolution. IARU
will be there.

Althoug it could sound off topic…
If the beacon site has internet access, perhaps it could be activated via
internet when everyone need it, by a clave provided by the owner.
Whatever could get access for the time needed and the beacon will not
suffer without any profit, extending its life.
My two cents...

A couple of days ago, several folks on this reflector were concerned about failure of their solid state PA’s. That caused me to think back about a problem I had a few decades ago with a 100 watt solid-state PA design. The amplifier would work just great for perhaps 30 minutes. Then the output stage device would blow. Once when this happened, I caught just a glimpse of a blue flash out of the corner of my eye as the device burned out. The 3-stage PA was built on a brass chassis, and the output match consisted of some series and parallel components. There was a leaded ATC capacitor, and this was soldered to a couple of piston variables that went to ground on each end of the leaded chip capacitor. The culprit was the thermal expansion of the brass chassis which was pulling the lead off of one end of the leaded chip capacitor and presenting essentially an open circuit to the device. I resolved the issue by putting “an expansion loop,” i.e. a slight V-shape in the lead on one end of the capacitor. This additional 2 nanohenries of inductance created another reactive component in the matching circuit, but I could compensate for this by changing the value of capacitance.

Bird 4410A wattmeter, in good condition with the typical corner paint
scrapes from use. The 4410 lets you use one slug to make measurements form
low to high power! 4410-8 1kw 200mhz to 1,000mhz slug included. Good for
222,432, and 1296(10% off error typically) measuring. Dummy slug and N quick
connectors also included. Printed copy of manual also included.
I am going a different route for 1296 power measurement that will be more
accurate
Asking $300 + actual shipping from 56237, no international shipping, it has
become ridiculously expensive. Postal money order only.

Hi All
I am on the look out for either a Female N connector for Eupen EC4-50, I think it's PN is nf50v12, A source in the UK would do if no one has one to sell,
Or can anyone point me in the direction of a female N connector for Hyperflex 13, M&P don't list one and I can't seem to locate any other none hardline 12.7mm coax that might suit,
Thanks

Hi all
This is a dumb question, I'm sure, but I can't get Funcube Dongle Pro+ to install under MAP65 v.2.7,r8182.
When I press FCD settings, a block labeled qthid.exe reads error messages; the first says QtCore4.dll not found and the second QtGui4.dll not found. OK, so going to the files, neither of the .dll's exist, but Qt5core.dll and Qt5gui.dll do exist. Of course, I can't edit qthid.exe. What do I do?
Thanks!

Anyone have a spare control board for a TS-2000(X) lying about they would be willing to sell? Mine is having an weird intermittent issue that apparently Kenwood Service can't find. It's my memory reset issue. It's back. Instead of fighting it I'll try to find a control board to swap out. They did replace the EPROM (IC7) but that wasn't it apparently. The board I need is the one with the main control CPU on it, Control Board, X53-3910-00 (aka X53-39xx-xx) and it sits right behind the flip down display next to the fan. Page 155+ in the service manual shows the board.Thanks,SeanKB8JNESent from my dumb smart phone.Spell checked by the NSA.
