Hello,
I'd like to write my two cents. The whole problem with maintaining operation
at frequencies above 1 GHz is about the unrealistic attempt to keep
frequency allocations too wide, on the order of tens of MHz. In the 23cm
band, then, it's especially a problem with ATV repeators in DL, which runs
nonstop and interferes with professional services orders of magnitude more
than narrowband EME-type traffic. If we want to defend the 23cm band, we
should collectively abandon ATV on 23cm and try to push for narrowing the 23
cm band to a maximum width of 2MHz i.e. 1296 to 1296 MHz. If we continue to
insist on FMs and FM/ATV repeaters, we will lose the whole band because of
them...
Unfortunately, I fear that the representatives of amateur radio
organizations are mainly shortwave people who don't care about UHF bands and
will enthusiastically push for the replacement of 23cm band with some silly
HF or 40 MHz band allocations...
Maybe we as a community should not leave our hands in our laps and create
some sort of petition, what do you think?

Subject: Kennedy 8.6m dish disassembled and stored
Date: 2022-06-21 16:22
From: Joe Martin <joe.martin.k5so(a)gmail.com>
All,
The Kennedy 8.6m dish being offered by me for free is now removed from
my tower, disassembled, stored, and available to anyone desiring to pick
it up. See photo: https://kl6m.com/k5so/Kennedy_8.6m_dish.JPG
If no one comes to collect it, or if no one expresses to me a serious
interest and plan to do so, I most likely will store it for a year or
two before committing it to the scrap metal yard. Weight of the
assembled dish is about 2200 lbs (1000 Kg); the six outer ring petals
and two center petals weigh between 250-300 lbs each, approximately.
Best regards,
Joe K5SO
Dear friends,
I have allowed this discussion to continue because it has been more-or-less related to EME and has been mostly polite and civil. Now I think that all viewpoints have been aired and the conversation appears to be broadening beyond its original scope. Therefore, I ask that we give the topic a rest.

I completely agree with Zdenek OK1DFC and Peter PA2V.
I consider that a complete boycott of Russian and Belarus amateur stations
is entirely appropriate so that all Russians can sense that the rest of the
world is against the actions of their country and give them all moments to
reflect.
I find it strange that the only voices that seem to be counter to this view
are coming from the US. On the other hand, perhaps it is not so strange from
a country where many demonstrate and continue to vote for members of the
general public to possess assault firearms just because they do not want to
repeal some 200+ year constitutional amendment which was intended to provide
armed civilians to repulse a British invasion........

Everyone can make up their own minds about the situation in Ukraine.
However, I am fundamentally opposed to aggression provoked only under the
pretext of de-Nazification and de-militarisation of Ukraine and calling a
brutal war against civilians a 'special military operation'. I went to
Ukraine on business very often, but I never met any Nazis there. I don't
know if little defenseless children, women, old people are Nazis or
militarists when they have to be killed by Russian air force, artillery and
rockets. Can you imagine your loved ones, friends, children, grandchildren
being killed under the pretext of protecting "something"? I don't, and
regardless of whether I am an amateur radio operator or not, I protest
against this lawlessness. This is not about politics, it is about personal
attitude and thinking. Until I can make QSOs on the bands again with friends
from Ukraine as Sergey UR5LX and many others, there is no Russian EME
contest for me. As I write above, you can think what you want, but next time
it may be our turn. I and many my friends in OK lost 22 years of life under
the occupation of the than Soviet Union and I don't wish anyone to have to
go through that too. Yet I have friends in Russia who deeply disagreed with
the occupation of Czechoslovakia at the time and were deeply ashamed of that
act. Bravo to Ukraine and its brave people, who in the 21st century have to
face a brutal war of aggression and senseless killing.

All public information concerning the discussions in ITU-R-WP5A is here:

Amateur radio, as IARU R1 has two representatives that attend. Barry Lewis,
G4SJH, RSGB Microwave manager provides the amateur radio technical input to
WP5A. It has been for some time the No1 issue for IARU R1.
There is one hell of a lot of technical detail which is being taken apart
with a very fine toothcomb. The problem is that the pollical weight of the
EU Commission might well sway the day, whatever the technical detail, and
end amateur radio on 23cms on a global basis.

Where are the technical details of what is being proposed by the RNSS
protagonists? I understand that it is related to field strength and
therefore distance. What are they trying to protect, the satellites or the
ground stations? How are existing primary users affected and what has been
their response. This appears to be bad receiver design. Dick and others
thanks for the hard work on our behalf.
