Gentlemen
*I will be on both 23 and 70cm for only Saturday of the ARRL Contest.*
(Sat 28th Nov 15 .. Moon Rise 1135z .. set 2150z )
No skeds, no chat rooms, just random CW. If you can't hear me you have a
problem Huston.
*Please check my website for the latest updates* as I have made cosmetic
colour changes to the
software commensurate with Windows 7 and 10 ..*beware of W10* as I found
many common programs do not
run on it at present.You wont knowthat until afterwards! Winding back
from W10 to W7 is not as you would hope.
It does appear smooth enough but I found much is 'corrupted' during the
process. My current software compilers will not
run on W10 and the Software Co. bluntly stated that they do not support
W10 for my version, however, I could upgrade to their latest
product for a 'once of bargain price' of US$7950! .. Accordingly I
wound backand with considerable difficulty. That took another 4 frustrating
days to return to where I began and used half my data download budget in
the process (4.5GB), and all the time thinking 'won't I ever learn'?
If you are going to 'upgrade', my suggestion is to Ghost your existing
drive to another and then use that one to update
so you have a fully functional fall-back. A new MS pretty logo and some
extra refinements, although quite nice, may not be worth itgiven it
seems that
many drivers are not currently available for some programs and may, in
all probabilitynever become available?
Its that *serious* that a close friends wife, (his call sign shall
remain anomalous), took her grand sons advice over his own, and 'updated' to
W10 and promptly found she had lost all her computer games! Absolute
disaster! It was pointed out that it was up to the grandson to provide
the solution.
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall!

Hi all,
I've just got terrible shocking message from Roberto, IK2OFO,
that well known Claudio I4XCC became Silent Key yesterday.
Funeral will be held on 28th November.
Claudio was very good friend of mine although we've never
met personally. He was very active in SSB and CW on 2m
since 1974, well known to whole VHF DX community and
since 2003 he stared to be very active on 10 GHz. Most
of stations in Middle Europe are remembering to his strong
signal via Rainscatter. I'd say that he was one of the most
known 3cm station ever.
I remember to our first QSO on 10 GHz on 18th June 2006
(QRB 705km). At that time I used only indoor 15dB horn antenna
and about 3W at output of waveguide. We were both amazed
that such a QSO is possible with such a small equipment and since
then we had 30x RS QSOs + more 3cm contacts under my
club OK2KKW/OK2A. It was always fun because Claudio
was excellent CW operator so we were able to have short QRQ
talking in CW. I must also remember to his 3cm expedition into
San Marino T7 during Summer 2010. Thank to him I was able to
work T70A on 3cm QRB 707km with my small horn antenna,
truly amazing.
It was really shocking to read from IK2OFO that he passed us yesterday
only in age of 60.. Claudio was very unselfish, friendly, extraordinary
man, who will be very, very missed.
RIP Claudio dear friend..

Yes , sad news. Claudio was a good friend , worked on eme/ms/ES/FAI for
many , many years from the 80's up to recently.
The only contact missing was on 10Ghz where he was very active. This qso
will never be done.
He is shining the VHF and up "hall of fame" , among the home builders
and super dedicated and skilled operators.

It is with deep regret I read the sad news about the passing away of another good VHF
Friend.
Claudio was one of the few Italian stations who I could work in summertime via Defraction
on the Alps. JN63GV was around 1000Km for me (from my old QTH) We worked over a dozen
times (between 1997 and 1999) via Defraction/Iono/Tropo all in CW of coarse. Claudio was a
very good CW operator. Also many MS QSO’s are in the log with Claudio, still have some
recordings. “ I four X cee cee “ in SSB is what I remind me of his calling on 144.200
Random SSB meteor-scatter frequency.
It’s like Matej says A Friend even though we never met. Polite, very kind, and a keen
operator always willing to do some tests. In that days we talked to each other on
WW-converse channel 14345 to arrange skeds.
Another HUGE loss to the VHF (UHF/SHF) community
Rest in Peace my friend …-.-

It is with deep regret I read the sad news about the passing away of another
good VHF Friend.
Claudio was one of the few Italian stations who I could work in summertime
via Defraction on the Alps. JN63GV was around 1000Km for me (from my old
QTH) We worked over a dozen times (between 1997 and 1999) via
Defraction/Iono/Tropo all in CW of coarse. Claudio was a very good CW
operator. Also many MS QSO's are in the log with Claudio, still have some
recordings. " I four X cee cee " in SSB is what I remind me of his calling
on 144.200 Random SSB meteor-scatter frequency.
It's like Matej says A Friend even though we never met. Polite, very kind,
and a keen operator always willing to do some tests. In that days we talked
to each other on WW-converse channel 14345 to arrange skeds.
Another HUGE loss to the VHF (UHF/SHF) community

Hi all,
I've just got terrible shocking message from Roberto, IK2OFO,
that well known Claudio I4XCC became Silent Key yesterday.
Funeral will be held on 28th November.
Claudio was very good friend of mine although we've never
met personally. He was very active in SSB and CW on 2m
since 1974, well known to whole VHF DX community and
since 2003 he stared to be very active on 10 GHz. Most
of stations in Middle Europe are remembering to his strong
signal via Rainscatter. I'd say that he was one of the most
known 3cm station ever.
I remember to our first QSO on 10 GHz on 18th June 2006
(QRB 705km). At that time I used only indoor 15dB horn antenna
and about 3W at output of waveguide. We were both amazed
that such a QSO is possible with such a small equipment and since
then we had 30x RS QSOs + more 3cm contacts under my
club OK2KKW/OK2A. It was always fun because Claudio
was excellent CW operator so we were able to have short QRQ
talking in CW. I must also remember to his 3cm expedition into
San Marino T7 during Summer 2010. Thank to him I was able to
work T70A on 3cm QRB 707km with my small horn antenna,
truly amazing.
It was really shocking to read from IK2OFO that he passed us yesterday
only in age of 60.. Claudio was very unselfish, friendly, extraordinary
man, who will be very, very missed.
RIP Claudio dear friend..

Way too many sad messages of that kind during the recent years...
Claudio was my 1st Italian station via tropo back in 1977. I was
always impressed by his signal and his achievements.
My thoughts are with his family.

Wise words, I see too much of this kind of thing as I get requests for MoonSked
registration numbers because computers have been screwed up by Windows 10 installs and in
many cases sadly there was no viable backup available and vital things like logbooks and
photos had been lost.
Please research first before you upgrade. Make sure that you have a proven backup of any
vital stuff. Nowadays you can backup things like logbooks to the cloud, DropBox etc as an
extra precaution, but using a clone of your drive so you can go back quickly is very good
form.
I will add that I have been lucky, everything I use has worked with Windows 10 here after
I transitioned from Windows 8.
However all my programming and photography work is done on Apple Macintosh OS X.
For similar reasons to the Windows 8 to 10 transition, I have not gone From OS X Yosemite
to El Capitan yet and probably won’t.

W10 and promptly found she had lost all her computer games! Absolute disaster! It was
pointed out that it was up to the grandson to provide the solution.
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall!
