Hello All,
I started looking at a set of database functions for WSJT (I've not
looked at MAP65 at all) back in October, but realized It would not be
finished before the final EME contest in November so I stopped messing
with things so as not to interferer with releases prior to the contest.
What's being asked for here is not overly difficult. Its just a matter
of extending the current logging function in WSJT.
I looked at the ARRL log submission forms, from what I can see, there's
nothing odd to speak of. It would be nice if they would adopt the
Cabrillo log submission format, but, that is the contest sponsor's call.
I have a couple other items I need to finish working on, after which,
I'll look at this again and see if we can get something functional for
the next VHF contest (End of January I think it is?). If it meets Joe's
approval, maybe he will release it for the contest, no guarantees though.

Hi All,
I received a very nice note from Rick and he showed me a very well
executed example of a Cabrillo-type log for the ARRL EME Contest. Rick
uses W3KM's GenLog and it generates a Cabrillo-type file that is just
lacking the "points" field. To make his Cabrillo-type file Rick added
that field on to the end of each line. You can see GenLog at:
http://www.qsl.net/w3km/
While N1MM+ does not have an ARRL EME Contest template as a part of the
official package, as Ron mentioned an N1MM+ "template" for the ARRL EME
contest is available as a "user-defined contest".
This can be downloaded from
http://n1mm.hamdocs.com/tiki-list_file_gallery.php?galleryId=18
The specific URL for the .udc file is:
http://n1mm.hamdocs.com/tiki-download_file.php?fileId=738
Instructions for use of the template are at:
http://n1mm.hamdocs.com/tiki-index.php?page=Setup+User+Defined+Contests#Ins…
Thanks to both Rick and Ron for their info!
Unfortunately, the N1MM+ implementation of a "Cabrillo" file for this
contest leaves out both the multiplier AND the points fields, so these
would need to be added manually. And doing that properly is not as
simple as it might seem.
This is because the purpose of the Cabrillo format is to support
electronic log submission and automate the log checking process. You
cannot have automated processing of a Cabrillo [or any] log format if
the field formats, acceptable field values, and field positions are not
fully specified by the contest sponsor or the organization that will be
adjudicating the log submissions. Thus each contest sponsor that
indicates that Cabrillo logs are to be submitted must define and make
publicly available a Cabrillo template for each contest that they
sponsor so that these parameters are completely defined and contestants
can construct their log entries using this specification. Without such a
template, generating a Cabrillo log that is certain to be compatible
with automated processing is impossible. You can see some example
templates for specific contests at:
http://wwrof.org/cabrillo/cabrillo-qso-templates/ You can also find
some examples posted by the ARRL for ARRL contests at:
http://www.arrl.org/cabrillo-format-tutorial [click on "November
Sweepstakes Templates"]
or, for the ARRL June VHF contest, at:
http://www.arrl.org/june-vhf [Click on "Cabrillo Templates for the New
SO3B and SOFM Categories"]
A large number of templates [but not one for the ARRL EME] are listed here:
http://www.contestlogchecker.com/cabrillo-templates.html
I am not aware that the ARRL has published a Cabrillo template for their
EME contest. As noted above, this is a necessity if they want logs to
be submitted for this contest in Cabrillo format and suitable for
automated processing.
A Cabrillo template for the ARRL EME Contest might look like this:
-------------------------------------

G= Callsign worked.
H= Signal Report Received.
I = Multiplier:
either [a] the standard two-letter USA state abbreviation
[b] the callsign prefix taken from the ARRL DXCC List
J= Points.
---------------------------------
An alternate way of demonstrating the Cabrillo QSO template would be:
----info sent---- ----info rcvd----
QSO: freq mo date time call rpt call rpt mult pts
QSO: ***** ** yyyy-mm-dd nnnn ************* nnn ************* nnn **** ***
QSO: 144 CW 2015-11-29 0748 SM3CER/P 539 OH0/SM0AIG/P 549 OH 100

---------------------------------
But the QSO Entry fields could also have a different order or format
than is shown here. And just what values are acceptable for the
"Multiplier" field, and what their format should for a Cabrillo file for
the ARRL EME contest has not to my knowledge been defined. Presumably,
depending on the station location, the "Multiplier" field contents would
be one of either [a] the standard two-letter USA state abbreviations or
[b] a prefix taken from the ARRL DXCC List, but this is just conjecture
at this point.
Only after a template for this contest that defines field order, field
data format, and accepted field values [especially for the "multiplier"
field] has been made available by the sponsoring organization will we be
able to construct a legitimate Cabrillo file suitable for automated
processing for this contest.
Until that has been done, we can generate files that look like Cabrillo
files, but they will not be suitable for automated processing. And that
suitability for automated processing is the primary reason for the
existence and use of Cabrillo files.

Incidentally, I do not think that Rick is correct
in saying that the
ARRL prefers Cabrillo logs for the EME contest. The EME contest is
different from other contests in this regard. The EME Contest
Instructions on the ARRL Website at:
http://www.arrl.org/eme-contest say:
"Each line of QSO data in the log should contain band, mode, date and
time in UTC, callsign of station worked, exchange sent, exchange
received, each new multiplier, and points earned. Photocopies of the
log form and official Summary Sheet are acceptable".
These instructions do NOT mention Cabrillo Logs as the preferred log
format for the EME contest.
And note that the instructions specifically indicate that each line of
the log must include "each new multiplier" and "points earned".
The standard Cabrillo specification does not provide for fields for
either of these types of data. And as far as I am aware, neither the
ARRL nor the WWROF have issued an EME Contest extension/template for
the Cabrillo format in order to allow for the inclusion of these items
in a Cabrillo log. So I believe that submitting a Cabrillo log that
met the specifications for the log as detailed in the EME Contest
Instructions as noted above would be problematic at this point.
If I am wrong about this, I would be most eager to receive that
information, as well as the details of exactly how the Cabrillo file
for the EME contest is to be constructed so that it meets the
specifications outlined at
http://www.arrl.org/eme-contest
