For you that do not have the "moon" reflector, some info on SK6OSO on 6 cm
EME.

Gentlemen.
The status for our planned activity is as follows:
1.
==
Previously, the geometry of the dish and its
support components has been checked using laser test equipment.
After making some calculations, it was decided to
move the sub-reflector 100 mm closer to the main reflector. The work is planned
for this week. As of today, SEFD- measurements "Before" are taking place
on 5 GHz. After the move, we have to repeat the tests. Possibly also
on L-band (1300-1800 MHz). Each test takes at least 6 hours after which the
engineer on duty (that is normally undersigned) will go up and change the
feeder. I cannot say if the tests will complete before the end of the week.

Last time (summer of 2009), it was discovered that the pointing tables
used for the moon was incorrect. The table was once implemented because
of EME-experiments, but after a major software upgrade, the table was
never verified. Eventually, I had to make the pointing manually througout the
entire week-end (with some help from visiting amateurs).
There were corrections made to the table and the software in the fall
of 2009, but they were not checked. When we tested the moon pointing
today, we got an error message indicating that the
table used was still incorrect. I have asked my collegue to attend to this
problem, but since it is a personal request I have no authority to speed
things up.
I have however decided that it is not acceptable to have to control the antenna
manually in the same fashion that was done 2009. We hit a considerably smaller
area of the moon on 5760, and I also want some action by the RF equipment
this time.
And:
The EME activity envolves not only myself, but also some of my collegues
that has promised their support. It also requires that there are no other
experiments running on the other 20M dish. It can also happend that there
is a TOO (Target of Opportunity) = Discovered phenomenon that needs
to be investigated. Or, It can simply be the case that one of my scientist collegues
wants to run an experiment during the week-end. I have to abide by these
requests. We have the permit to use the dish only if no other activity
inteferes. I did not want to raise the EME communitys expectations because
of this. (Hence the lack of continous updates.)
My advice to all those that are looking forward to the week-end is to stay tuned.
We will advertise times and frequencies (or if the activity has to be cancelled)
in time before the week-end on this forum.
Thank you for your understanding and 73
