Hi Barry,
It is so sad to hear about Gunter passing… very sad…
I had the privilage in 2002 to operate his 24 Ghz station in Vancouver.
Gunter was on the Az/ El control and I was doing the CW TX/ RX. I recall the doppler was
about 50 - 80 KHz and definitely no tone….
He was using a second receiver listening to the IF to make sure we were “on the Moon”. I
had to stop every 30 sec TX so he can
make sure we are at the moon. That 16 ft Andrews solid wish was very narrow. He was
running 100W at the dish.
You were our first contact Barry on 24 Ghz. The event was also broadcasted live on the
local ATV repeater in Vancouver.
I believe NASA was also listening to the QSO and there was some article after that.
The following weekend we worked Al W5LUA and another Russian station that I can not
remember the callsign..sorry OM.
That made Gunter very happy!!!! He was a very dedicated guy to EME!. He introduced me to
the Moon and inspired me to go to 2M EME... few years later.
RIP my friend
73!
